How He Shamelessly Asked For The Whole Contract
How He Shamelessly Asked For The Whole Contract
How can business owners stay motivated with repetitive projects?
I love what I do. Even if I've completed 10 Walmart projects in a year, each one is unique—different story, different crew, different weather, different state. My business operates nationwide, and I deploy my crews wherever needed. Right now, I’m speaking from a hotel in Iowa, where we're roofing a mega factory.
What keeps me going isn't just the goals I set but also the experiences, the quality of life, and the journey itself. This work is fun. There’s no chance to get bored because every project, every day, is different.
How can business owners reduce overthinking to seize timely opportunities?
Sometimes, knowing too much can lead to overthinking, and that fear can be paralyzing. My biggest losses have been missed opportunities, especially those that are time-sensitive. The market, economy, and even our own life stages can change quickly, and fear often holds us back.
Right now, I have projects on my board that I've been sitting on, including 20 prime domain names with major industry potential. I’ve been stuck, overthinking all the possibilities. But this conversation has made me realize it’s time to take action. I’m now creating a playbook for each idea and finding business developers to bring these projects to life: “Here’s the money, make it happen.”
Don’t be afraid to try—fear is paralyzing, and it’s a dream killer. Everyone needs help along the way. Even someone like Elon Musk didn’t build his empire alone; he connected the dots with others. The worst anyone can say is “no,” and that’s it.
While overcoming fear has led to my biggest successes, fear has also been my greatest obstacle. I still have unfulfilled dreams and solutions to real pain points in the market, but fear continues to be a challenge even today.
What strategies help business owners stay focused on their goals?
I filter everything through my goals. I know where I want to be, and anything that doesn’t align with that is out—simple as that. I’m fortunate to do something I truly love, so reaching my goals, and even the journey itself, keeps me motivated. Nothing can bring me down. Sure, there will be setbacks, but it’s like a video game—you earn points with each move, and I watch my net worth steadily increase. This progress brings me closer to achieving what I want.
When should business owners focus on solving problems for opportunities?
As long as I have my health and my reputation, give me a cell phone and a laptop, and I’ll be back in business. I’m the guy who knows the guy, and people always have problems. When people ask, "What should I do for a business?" I say, become a problem hunter. Go out and identify problems people are willing to pay to solve. That’s it. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in. I’m a business person in the roofing industry, but I’m not a roofer—I would start the same way in any field.
Why is networking essential for business owners aiming for growth?
It’s critical to dedicate time to networking, even if you’re not attending many events. Events are where you meet people with shared goals and values—people who are on the same path or where you want to be. Seek out those who embody what you aspire to become, spend more time with them, and ask for advice from those you admire.
