How To Build A Business With A Kingdom Mindset

What should entrepreneurs prioritize over following their passion for success?

Society, culture, and the school system often push the idea of "following your passion." I remember hearing, "If you follow your passion, you'll never work a day in your life." As I got older, I realized this was the worst advice ever. I know many passionate people who are broke. They can't rub two pennies together, even though they love what they do.

The truth is that the biggest enemy of any vision is a lack of provision. You can have an incredible vision for your business or life, but without the finances, skills, or ability to create enough value in the marketplace that people will pay for, you have nothing. From a business perspective, if you have a great idea that nobody wants, it's not a business—it's an expensive hobby.

What does it mean to trust God's vision in business?

There is nothing more frustrating to me than hearing, "I'm just waiting on God." Some think there's righteousness in that idea, but I believe God is saying, "No, I'm waiting on you." He has already given us everything to go forth and be fruitful. If we don't take action, He can't work through us.

Taking action requires faith. The Bible says it is impossible to please God without faith. I equate faith to risk. As entrepreneurs and creators, we have to take risks. If we truly believe in what we are doing, especially as Christians, shouldn't we be leading the charge in taking these so-called risks? Our faith isn't just in faith itself, but in the Creator who has given us a vision.

How can being honest with yourself improve your confidence?

The word "confidence," which has an interesting root—"confide." When we lack confidence, it's often because we know what we're truly like on the inside. We are the only ones who know every lie we've ever told. When faced with something new, we don't take the risk or challenge because we lack the confidence to step up or even say we'll do it. When you confide only in yourself, it erodes your confidence to take action in life.
