How To Set Your Business Up For Success This Year!

How can business owners set and achieve goals?

Interestingly, less than 3% of people who set goals write them down. Even more surprising, about 95% of those who write them down never refer back to them—they just leave their goals in a drawer. The key is taking initial action, writing down these actions, and continuously tracking and progressing. The importance of action is our first step. For many GTK members, success becomes more attainable because we surround ourselves with others pursuing similar goals.

Why should entrepreneurs plan long-term goals by working backward?

If you are focused on the present, you may find it challenging to envision long-term goals, like what will happen next week, making it difficult to plan for the year. However, envisioning a three-year plan might be more natural for forward-thinking entrepreneurs. To achieve these goals, you must work backward from your desired outcome in December at the end of Q4. You'll need to consider what must occur in each preceding quarter—Q3, Q2, and Q1—and even break it down further to what needs to happen each month. This method allows you to set clear milestones for January, ensuring each step aligns with your end-of-year goals.

How do public commitments help business owners achieve goals?

First, sharing your goals with your family, spouse, and children is a powerful strategy. It involves them in the process and holds them accountable. I used to teach salespeople to share their targets with their children, asking them to inquire about sales daily. This kind of accountability from your family can motivate you not to let them down. Additionally, embedding yourself within a community of like-minded individuals, such as what we offer at Gathering The Kings, enhances this effect. Surrounding yourself with growth-oriented and family-focused people can significantly impact your performance. Our regular calls and events provide support and a unique energy from being in the same room with others who are driven to succeed in all aspects of life.

Making commitments public, such as announcing on the podcast that I've given up caffeine, adds another layer of accountability. It ensures I maintain integrity because now, a broader audience expects me to uphold my commitment. This practice makes it challenging to backtrack without losing credibility, reinforcing my commitment to my decisions and the values I hold dear, like integrity.

What is the best way for entrepreneurs to document and affirm their 2025 goals?

Write down your aspirations for 2025 across all areas of your life. Include milestones you aim to achieve along the way. Document these in a written format that you can read aloud daily. If it’s concise enough, consider writing it every day, but at a minimum, read it aloud to affirm your commitment.

The act of deciding is crucial here; 'decide' implies cutting off other possibilities and focusing on one path. Commit to reading your goals aloud every day, believing they are already yours. This practice may feel awkward initially, but continue to visualize and embody them as realities.

By doing this consistently through 2025, I'm confident you'll experience life-changing results. You'll see the year unfold in ways you couldn't have imagined, driven by your morning ritual of affirming your goals. At the end of 2025, I’d love to hear about your successes, whether you're part of Gathering the Kings or not. If for some reason, it doesn't work and you've faithfully followed through, reach out, and let's explore how we can adjust your approach.
