Why Employees Are Unhappy

What is the value of behavioral assessments?

We developed our own assessment based on DISC, which is probably the most popular behavioral assessment worldwide. It is used by three-quarters of the Fortune 500 and many branches of the U.S. military. There are many great assessments available, and we started working with DISC 20 years ago through a company called TTi, which offers excellent assessments.

Assessments can be like a religion. If I tried to convince you that my assessment is better than yours, it might feel like a debate between different belief systems. However, we're not interested in winning that debate. The real win is that people use assessments at all. As you mentioned, self-awareness is critical. It is a key part of becoming a great leader, a manager, or developing your business.

How does the Happy platform use AI tools to improve team collaboration and meeting effectiveness?

What's more likely is that if you're in Microsoft Teams, it knows you're meeting with “Tom” by monitoring your calendar. About an hour before your meeting, it sends you tips on meeting with “Tom” without you having to do anything.

Our technology operates on a principle we call "the right piece of advice at the right time, at the right moment, to the right person." Our technology is relatively new, about a year old, so some of what I’m describing is an ideal state. In a perfect scenario, we anticipate the human interactions you're having. The Happy platform already understands who you’re working with. You can build a team and choose to follow specific people, like Sandy or Tom. We use a technology called Smart Follow, our proprietary tool, to understand who you're collaborating with inside the organization.

Should a business owner focus on passion or profit?

Figure out what you love. One of the biggest misconceptions about success is that people often prioritize money over passion. In my experience, if you find a craft you love—whether it's snowboarding, music, or anything else that excites you when you wake up—you can build a career around it.
