How To Delegate Effectively
How To Delegate Effectively
How can business owners prioritize family and faith while running their business?
My family and God are my top priorities. I believe God wants us to work every day, and I take pride in running a faith-based business. We always strive to do the right thing. My children motivate me; I want them to be able to say, “Dad made it happen.” That is my biggest motivation.
What are the benefits of reinvesting profits into a business?
One of the best decisions I made was to invest the money I earned back into the business instead of spending it on nice things. Instead of buying extravagant items, I chose to buy the same 10 shirts and had my business shirts made so I could wear those. Reinvesting money into the business has definitely been one of my better decisions.
What mindset shifts help business owners pursue their goals?
You only live once, and while the probability of success is low, I’d rather try and fail than never try at all. No regrets. Anything you want in life is already yours; you just have to reach out and grab it. A significant part of my life has been about speaking what I want into existence and actively pursuing it. I hustle every day—there’s not a day when I don’t do some work, even on Sundays. I try to avoid work on Sundays, but I often get calls. Ultimately, whatever you want is already yours; you just have to hustle to get it.
How can business owners enforce accountability in their teams?
I'm a good-natured person who likes to give people opportunities. However, some of the people working for me were slacking off and not taking accountability for their actions. Being the type of person I am, I always offered an extra chance. Now that I have more experience, I’ve changed that approach. Either you show up for work on time every day, or you won't be part of this team. This is a mistake I now avoid, as it could have cost me much more than it did.
How can business owners improve collaboration with team leaders?
My project leads and foremen are just as invested in these jobs as I am because they handle hiring the workers. I don’t have to hire anyone myself; they bring on the crew and ensure they do it consistently. I communicate with just a few crew leaders, which is an advantage for both me and them. This collaboration allows us to communicate effectively, and everything works out to our mutual benefit.
Why involve teams in job decision-making?
I have a great group of people, and before taking on a job, I always involve the crew I have in mind for hiring. We evaluate the job together to determine if it's in our best interest to accept it. The decision is made collectively, ensuring that everyone around me is involved in the process. I'm not just accepting jobs for the sake of working; we're choosing jobs that will be profitable and will help our business excel and enhance our reputation.
